Sophie has led volunteers and programs at a variety of organizations including the City of Sunnyvale and the Second Harvest Food Bank. For seven years at the City of Sunnyvale, in addition to the volunteer program she handled a variety of other projects in the City Manager's Office as a senior management analyst. Some of those projects include the recruitment and orientation of the City Council's advisory Boards and Commissions and a variety of human services related projects.
She co-authored, "Volunteers for the Cities: A How To Manual for Developing or Enhancing Municipal Volunteer Programs". Her volunteer service includes activities related to Directors of Volunteers in Agencies (DOVIA) Silicon Valley as well as any projects her boys bring home.
Sophie's checkered past includes work with volunteers at the UCLA Alumni Association, a 6th grade teacher, intern to a state assemblyman, and a program fellow at the International House at UC Berkeley. She has also worked with teens in Project Upward Bound in Los Angeles, Summer Youth Employment Program and Next Step. A graduate of UC Berkeley in Psychology (AB) and in Education (MA), she also holds a certificate in marketing from UC Santa Cruz Extension.
